Wassup ?

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

It seems that I have been blogging a lot of junk lately.

So I’ll let you in on what has been happening.

1. I’m still together with Kathrin.
She is the most amazing woman I ever met.
And I sure do hope that we’ll be together for a long time.

2. My health is slowly getting better.
Well, very slowly.
I guess at this speed I’ll be OK again in 2-3 years.
Research of CPPS is slowly being ramped up.
It’s slowly shifting into the focus of doctors.
Which is a good thing.
I guess five years from now they will have “something” to fix it … fast.

3. Still shopping for a flat/house.
I found a nice little flat (52 sqm) for around 55K Euro.
But the real estate agent hasn’t provided all documentation yet,
so that is on hold.
On the other hand there is a really nice loft (140 sqm) for 160K Euro.
I’ll go and have a look tomorrow.

4. My company hasn’t fired me yet.
I think I really need a kick to get moving again,
so getting fired would be a nice start…

5. Other projects.
Most of my other projects are slowly simmering.
No major updates, but most of the are in a stable state right now.

6. oxyride.de
I had planned this to be my “next big thing”,
but - due to lack of time - right now it’s just another
“parked domain”.
If you’d like to help out - and are good with php/mysql- be my guest and contact me.

7. Blogging
Well, an update a day ?
Maybe not.
But when something cool happens I’ll let you know.

8. Radio
It’s getting better and better.
We ruined the Mera Luna interviews,
but we plan to practice … a lot…
Maybe I’ll do some podcasts of the upcoming interviews.

anti

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

This blog is about anti.
Not about just.

Google seems to think different.
So here it is.
Googlebot: anti is what this site is about.
Only anti. Nothing but anti. And anti again.

OK. It’s not only about anti.
It’s also about the stuff anti likes.
And the things anti tinkers with.

So if you want to give me a hand:
Please link to this site (http://anti.cute-ninjas.com/news/) and put “anti” as text.

Opera

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

I never really like Opera (after buying an OS/2 License and never getting an OS/2 Version).
But this is a nice gesture:

My car just turned digital … again.

Well, the odometer hit 110000.

but after that it might be a while….

buenzli 14 - surprise compo

Saturday, August 20th, 2005

Buenzli 14 had the usual surprise compo.
Keywords were:
police
cheese
fire salamander

I couldn’t stop myself from doing a little something.
So I played around with blender a bit … trying some of the new 2.37 features.

The entry ended up abit late - as usual
and a bit screwed up - as usual,
but it looks like it might win ;)

Here is a little shot:
Fake - Buenzli 14 - Surprise

I’ll upload a final onc eit has finished rendering,
since I had to release a 75% Version with 5x OSA (instead of 16x)
due to running late.

Buenzli is a really nice little party.
If you are interested in the demoscene at all, you should go there !

iPod mini - Linux

Thursday, August 18th, 2005

Looks like ipodlinux now supports the mini.

I’m giving this a try now.

[DRAFT]

First:
Backup the whole thing!
Step 1:
Plug iPod into my G5

Step 2:
Find the Volume
mount|grep -i ipod
/dev/disk1s3 on /Volumes/Antis iPod (local, nodev, nosuid, journaled)

So my iPod is disk1 which is the first SCSI device.

Step 3:
Backup the original OS
dd if=/dev/disk1s2 of=s2_os

Step 4:
Backup the Data

Hmmm … can’t backup /dev/disk1s3,
so we’ll backup the whole thing.
dd if=/dev/disk1 of=all
(This will take a while, so you might want to skip ahead and download all the needed stuff ;) )

Second:
Install
Step 1:
Get all the needed files:
(techzone has nightlies in the download area,
but these are for Windos only)
Get the files from ipodlinux.org
Get the latest kernel.bin.gz and podzilla.gz

Get uclinux-2.4.24-ipod2.tar.gz (or later) from SourceForge
Unpack it
tar xzf uclinux-2.4.24-ipod2.tar.gz

Get the linux filesystem from SourceForge.
Do not unpack this!

Step 2:
Get the ipodloader from SourceForge.
With the mini you need the CVS version.

cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/ipodlinux login
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/ipodlinux co -P tools/ipodloader
cd tools/ipodloader

make (this assumes you have the arm-toolchain installed!)

Step 3:
Extract the Apple firmware
bin/make_fw -o apple.bin -v -e 0 Backup/s2_os

Step 4:
Create new all-in-one firmware:
bin/make_fw -3 -o apple_linux.bin -i apple.bin -l 2005-08-17-kernel.bin ipodloader-src-0.3.2/loader.bin

The resulting apple_linux.bin should be around 5MB

Step 5:
Copy the new firmware/kernel to y our iPod.
(If you skipped ahead earlier -> make sure your backup is finished!)
dd if=apple_linux.bin of=/dev/disk1s2

Step 6:
Copy the kernel libraries
cp -r lib /Volumes/Antis\ iPod

Step 7:
Extract the linux filesystem tro the iPod
tar xzf ipod_fs_040403.tar.gz -C /Volumes/Antis\ iPod/

Step 8:
Copy podzilla onto iPod and make it executable
cp 2005-08-17-podzilla /Volumes/Antis\ iPod/sbin/podzilla
chmod +x /Volumes/Antis\ iPod/sbin/podzilla

Mera Luna 2005

Tuesday, August 16th, 2005

Just came back from the Mera Luna 2005.
I’ve been to the Mera Luna a few times before,
but this year it was the first year with a VIP ticket :)

There were only about 21000 guest there this year,
but I guess most of it was due to the bad weather.
It was raining really bad on saturday.

Most of the bands were quite good.
Cruexshadows were really great.
You could really see that they were enjoying the show. Rogue kept climbing up the side of the stage,
I guess some of the orgas were near to a heart attack with him being about 10 meters above the ground.

The 69 eyes had returned to their older - more glamour rock - style.
The first comment I heard from the audience was “Omygod - they got fat.”,
the second one was “look at the hair … is that a wig ?”
They played OK, although the vocal were sometimes slightly off…

Mesh were really good - as usual.
Friends like these is still a killer song,
but I start to prefer From this height.

Deine Lakaien put on a good if somewhat short show.
But at least Alexander wasn’t stoned … as some people claim after the special event in Hannover last friday.
Ernst Horn showed once more that he is one of the greatest musicians … ever!

The Sisters of Mercy are getting old.
There was a lot of smoke on the stage, so I can’t say for sure if it was playback or live.
The guitars were definitly live, but regarding Andrew Eldritch’s singing, most of the people I talked to were pretty convinced that it wasn’t live.

Family

Friday, August 5th, 2005

Will visit my family over the weekend.

Gonna pickup Kathring from work and then take the train to Duesseldorf.
Fuel prices are so high right now, that it is cheaper to go by train…

I never thought I’d say that.

I wish I could call that vacation, but that’s another story.
Will visit my grandma … and I think she’s slowly loosing it.
I still love her, so it’s not that hard to stand those 4-6 hours….
