just to keep you entertained

(I lost the big picture)

upper left:
I just got my NexII (frontierlabs.com) and have to write some 'ease of use' tools.

bottom:
I did a chrooted debian installation on purples 2nd disk. I want to remove the old slow one, all that's left is the right kernel.

right side:
(gkrellm) I wrote a small plugin that displays an icon for the current xmms song.

upper right:
yahoo-messenger.
I don't like it, but some of my friends use it...

XB9R

I like the new Buell.

Tried to compile light, but that seems to need Mozilla compiled by hand. So I did that over at Blue (much faster) and wget-ed the result. (hmmm... 106%??)

Note: Added on February 6th 2010 Blue was on of the first servers I owned.
Back then I started to spray paint the cases of the PCs
and named the systems after their color.

The first few ... as I remember: * Blue * Green * Red * Yellow * White (G4 Mac Book, still in use by Kathrin) * Platinum (Quad Core Vista System with 1TB RAID5 and 4GB of RAM. My Windows system and thus almost always off.) * Snow (Well, white was taken, my MacBook, still in use by me. I'm typing this on it right now)

Almost There ...

... but I really want to use the space on the right side.
Don't get me wrong, I love gkrellm and it's functionality and features, but I need a vertical sysmon.
And that's exactly what you see in the SciTE window,
the first lines of vsysmon.....

This Is Ugly

yes,

it really is, but it works ...
... so far.

New Screenshot Script

This is me learning Gtk+Perl again.

In the upper right corner is the dialog that is opened when I click on the clock in my GKrellm.

Note: This whole setup including the script was lost during my big harddisk crash :(

[Edit: added in 2010] I had a big harddisk crash in 2002 and managed to overwrite the backups with the data from the broken disk. Since the my backup strategy has been improved a lot ;)

Website Redesign

[Note: I'm writing these lines in 2010, since the original shot hat no description!]

Wow, this was 2001 and the design is almost where it is today.

  • The site generation was automatic.
  • "Blogging" could be done via email.
  • Screenshoting, commenting, uploading and integrating into site was automagic.
Afterstep / Blueish

This is the last shot of my old window-manager (afterstep) with my blueish theme.

This theme was the base for a long row of improvements.

Screenshot Automagic 2

[Note: I'm writing these lines in 2010, since the original shot hat no description!]

I was still working on the screenshot tool.

As you can see in the background (upper left) I did quite some testing.

In the other terminal (lower left) it looks like I'm transfering an ISO for a debian install CD. (Nevermind the "mp3_real" directory, that was only my CD collection.)

In the texteditor (SciTE) you can see that even back then I used a statically generated website (check WML). I guess everything goes in circles.

Desktop Background done in Gimp

Just a quick hack from a few usenet pics and my old bumpy blue-background.

Nothing special here.

Layermasks are a nice feature in the gimp.

Screenshot Automagic

[Note: I'm writing these lines in 2010, since the original shot hat no description!]

Back in 2001 I was still using Perl for most of my scripting.

This seems to be one of the first screenshots done by my "automagic" screenshot, tagging and upload utility.

Looking back I think I was way ahead of my time.
